FAQ

How long does it take to crochet a jellyfish?
A small jellyfish, like #6 or #9, can take an hour or two. Mid-size ones with long tentacles take an evening or two. Big plushies like #10 or #8 can take a weekend, mostly because of the tentacles. Chunkier yarn and a bigger hook will always speed things up.

What yarn is best for a crochet jellyfish?
Cotton and cotton blends give clear stitches and hold their shape well, which is why many of these patterns use them. Acrylic worsted is cheap, soft and easy to wash. For a super soft baby toy, chenille or plush yarn works too, but the stitches are harder to see.

Are crochet jellyfish safe for babies?
They can be, with a few changes. Embroider the eyes instead of using safety eyes, sew all parts on very securely and keep tentacles short so they cannot wrap around anything. Always check the toy for loose parts. Juniper’s designer gives this same advice about the eyes.

Pick one, grab some bright yarn and have fun watching those tentacles curl.
